After the glitz and glamour of the eight-day celebration in 2022, the organizers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), MultiChoice Nigeria and Africa Magic, have announced the call for entries ahead of the 9th edition of the prestigious awards.

Filmmakers across Africa are invited to submit films, TV series, and made-for-television movies publicly exhibited or broadcast between December 1, 2021, and January 31, 2023. The entry portal opened on February 20 and will close on March 10, 2023.

Organizers Speak on 9th Edition

Speaking on the upcoming awards, Dr. Busola Tejumola, Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, said:

“The AMVCAs returned last year after a one-year break with much pomp and pageantry. We had an eight-day celebration filled with activities affecting different facets of our industry. Since then, we’ve seen more brilliant work we look forward to celebrating at the ninth edition.”

She added that the awards remain committed to spotlighting the tremendous talent in the African film and TV industry.

Categories and Highlights

The social media category—“Best Online Social Content Creator,” won last year by comedian Sabinus—will make a return, recognizing the rise of digital creators across Africa. Other anticipated awards include the Trailblazer Award, given to fast-rising actors, and the Lifetime Achievement Award, which honors veterans in the industry.

Fashion lovers will also look forward to the Best Dressed (Male and Female) category, after last year’s wins by Osas Ighodaro and Denola Grey. Osas also bagged the Best Actress in a Drama award for Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story, which won four awards overall. Similarly, Izu Ojukwu’s Amina emerged as one of the top winners, taking home four awards including Best Overall Movie.

Entry Guidelines

To enter the awards, filmmakers must submit a 5-minute showreel (less than 300MB) on the Africa Magic website.

The 9th edition promises another star-studded celebration of Africa’s finest talents in film, television, and digital content.
