Accra Table Tennis League

The Ghana Armed Forces women’s table tennis team has been crowned champions of the 2022/2023 Accra League, solidifying their reputation as the dominant force in the sport. The side displayed remarkable consistency and determination throughout the campaign, finishing the competition as undisputed winners.

Strong Performances Throughout the League

Organised by the Greater Accra Table Tennis Association, the league brought together over 20 participants, with eight female clubs — comprising both service teams and civilian sides — battling for the ultimate prize. The Armed Forces team stood out with their resilience, sharp technique, and tactical discipline, dropping only one match during the entire season.

Led by head coach Staff Sergeant Tagoe Moses, the side executed a well-planned strategy across the fixtures. Players such as Eva Adom-Amankwah, Celia Baah Danso, and Augustina Baidoo thrilled spectators with a mix of precision serves, powerful rallies, and clever spins that left their opponents struggling to keep pace.

Dominant Numbers on the Table

After winning six matches and losing only one, the Ghana Armed Forces team secured a total of 13 points, with an impressive 15-point difference that placed them comfortably ahead of their closest challengers, the Ghana Immigration Service. Their commanding statistics reflected not just their skill but also the team’s ability to deliver under pressure.

The team’s triumph adds to their growing collection of laurels in recent years, further cementing their reputation as the most formidable side in Ghanaian women’s table tennis. Under the guidance of Coach Tagoe, they have built a culture of excellence that continues to yield success.

Coach Moses Confident of More Success

Speaking after the final round of matches, Coach Tagoe expressed his delight at the team’s achievement while crediting the hard work of his players.

“I was certain we were going to win because, at the moment, we have the best players in the country,” he said. “My players are talented, dedicated, and they deserved this victory. We are not stopping here. Ghanaians should expect even greater performances from us in the coming seasons.”

He also extended his appreciation to the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces for their unwavering support. “We could not have come this far without the backing of the command and our sports director. Their contribution was crucial, and we are grateful for it,” he added.

Raising the Profile of Table Tennis in Ghana

The league’s conclusion not only highlighted the dominance of the Armed Forces team but also underscored the growing competitiveness of table tennis in Ghana. With strong participation from civilian and service clubs alike, the tournament showcased the sport’s potential to attract wider attention and nurture future stars.

As champions, the Ghana Armed Forces women’s side has once again raised the bar, proving that discipline, strategy, and determination are the key ingredients for sustained success on the table.
