Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has once again demonstrated his philanthropic spirit by pledging N20 million to 20 Nigerians with innovative business or startup ideas.
The “Fem” crooner made the announcement via his Twitter handle on Wednesday, stating his desire to help ease the financial hardships many Nigerians are facing. He wrote:
“Country hard right now sha … let’s give 20 m to 20 pple on Friday … send in your business ideas or start-up ideas … more details shortly #Wrblo.”
In a follow-up tweet, Davido added:
“Govt don fail us nah to dey help each other we dey now.”
Nigerians React in Numbers
Since the tweet, thousands of Nigerians have flooded the singer’s timeline with business proposals, ranging from health tech startups to agricultural ventures and educational platforms. Notable among the responses was one from JFK Koya, founder of the health tech startup Nguzu Health, who proposed sponsoring video therapy sessions for underserved Nigerians.
“N1M will give 66 people access to 2 video therapy sessions on our app,” he tweeted.
Social Impact and Track Record
This is not the first time Davido has given back on such a large scale. In 2021, ahead of his 29th birthday, he raised N200 million from fans and colleagues after a viral tweet asking for support. He later added N50 million of his own funds and donated the entire N250 million to orphanages across Nigeria.
His latest initiative comes amid growing concerns over Nigeria’s worsening economic situation, with inflation, unemployment, and food insecurity affecting millions.
What’s Next?
While specific selection criteria and disbursement details are yet to be released, Davido’s team is expected to provide more information before Friday’s deadline.
The initiative has sparked widespread appreciation, with many Nigerians hailing Davido for stepping up where others have not.
