French oil and gas giant, Total SE, has officially changed its name to TotalEnergies, marking a major shift in its strategy to become one of the top five renewable energy companies in the world by 2030.

Shareholders Back Strategic Transformation

The name change was approved during the company’s Ordinary and Extraordinary Shareholders’ Meeting held on Friday, May 28, 2021, in Paris, France.

The resolution was overwhelmingly supported by shareholders, affirming the company’s evolving identity as a broad energy provider.

In addition to the name change, the meeting saw the renewal of mandates for Mrs. Anne-Marie Idrac and Mr. Patrick Pouyanné as Director and Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, respectively.

Mr. Jacques Aschenbroich and Mr. Glenn Hubbard were also appointed as Directors for a 3-year term.

A New Identity for a New Era

Following the announcement, TotalEnergies also unveiled a new visual identity to align with its rebranded name and renewed mission.

“I would like to thank our shareholders for their almost unanimous support,” said Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO.

“TotalEnergies is now firmly anchored in our strategy of transforming into a broad energy company committed to sustainability and the energy transition.”

He added that more than 90% of shareholders supported the company’s ambition and targets related to sustainable development and carbon neutrality by 2030.

Focus on Sustainable Growth

Pouyanné emphasized that the rebrand symbolizes a commitment to sustainable energy, which now includes oil, biofuels, natural gas, green gases, renewables, and electricity.

“This transformation will mobilize the entire company,” he said. “We are becoming one of the most active players in the global energy transition.”
