Air travel in Nigeria is becoming more affordable again as airlines begin slashing fares on major domestic routes—Lagos to Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ilorin, Akure, Enugu, and Owerri—after recent price hikes frustrated many passengers.
The price cuts are being led by Green Africa Airways, a new entrant into the aviation sector, which is already drawing attention with its competitive pricing.
Green Africa Airways Leads with Affordable Tickets
Although Green Africa Airways will commence operations on June 24, 2021, it has already started selling tickets at drastically reduced rates:

Lagos to Abuja or vice versa: ₦16,500 to ₦23,000

Lagos to Port Harcourt: ₦16,500

Flights to Akure, Ondo, and Ilorin: ₦16,500 each
These fares are currently the lowest in the industry, providing a more accessible option for Nigerians who previously faced steep ticket prices.
The airline will initially focus on six domestic destinations: Abuja, Port Harcourt, Akure, Ilorin, Enugu, and Owerri.
Air Peace Also Adjusts Fares
Nigeria’s largest carrier, Air Peace, has also reduced its prices on select routes.

Lagos to Ilorin: ₦32,700, down from ₦52,500

Lagos to Abuja: ₦23,000 to ₦29,000
According to Air Peace spokesperson Stanley Olisa, the airline is set to begin daily flights on Abuja–Ilorin–Abuja and Lagos–Ilorin–Lagos routes starting June 17, 2021.
“The new route further exemplifies our determination to connect various cities across Nigeria and fill gaps in air travel,” Olisa said.
Rising Cost of Air Travel Sparked Concerns
In recent months, domestic airfare prices in Nigeria saw significant increases, sometimes doubling on certain routes. Cities such as Port Harcourt, Ilorin, Kano, Borno, and Kebbi were affected.
Many passengers expressed frustration over the rising cost of flights—especially as road travel remains risky due to insecurity and kidnappings.
